Plug-ins are safe. Period.
Today, Nissan Leaf joined the Chevy Volt as NHTSA 5-star cars. Similarly, two plug-in vehicles have earned top safety picks by the Insurance Institute for highway safety.
Complain about the cost or the area, but security and certainly is not a reason to buy a vehicle that plug-in.
For years, concerns about the safety of hybrid cars was also concern about some buyers, but hybrids and battery packs — have proven to be safe until today, and it seems that the same applies to hybrids, plug-in and plug-in electrics.
If anything, what these tests seem to demonstrate is that the automakers can produce extremely safe small cars, if they choose. Large gas guzzlers is not the only thing that can keep a family safe.
