This 1964 Lincoln Continental Limousine was specially adapted to the request from the Vatican, Pope Paul VI in the streets of New York, when he visited the United Nations to discuss world peace in Bonhams in 1965, under which the auction is running (via The Guardian).
Special Pope approved facilities include outdoor step plates and handrails for safety, additional seating "collaborators and prelates," a raised seat for the Pope and the public address system.
The car also has a transparent rear part and a removable roof, which the Pope addressed the crowds, who came to him. Today, the Pope travels in a bulletproof hybrid.
