AMSTERDAM – Struggling Swedish automaker Saab said Tuesday that it cannot pay off nearly half its workforce this month, because does not receive any resources, expected his concern about the precarious financial means of recovery.
Saab slid from one payment crisis to another in recent months, seeking financial resources so that it is possible to restart production.
Car Assembly was interrupted in April, when the suppliers refused to deliver parts, when they were paid and the Saab just closely said demand for one of its units, which declared bankruptcy last week.
The company's problems deepened; on Tuesday, when Saab said that the late payment of wages to their employees, because some resources published by the investors have not been paid at the time.
Saab spokesman Eric Geers told that the decision affects about 1600 people in 3,640 workers around 45 percent of its staff, but refused to say when they would be paid, or how much money the Saab still needed in order to pay wages.
"Money is one thing, has been delayed."It's very, very unfortunate for the people who are at risk, "said Geers.
In the Saab declined, dropping as 20.8 percent before partially recovering to trade with 11.6 percent to EUR 1.485, the biggest decliner on the Amsterdam stock exchange.
The company said it has received all the necessary steps to collect funds and continue talks with various parties to acquire additional short-term financing.
