Timothy Inzana combination of skills as an artist with his love of cars in a single project using mathematical, metalcraft, computer illustration programs and a lot of creativity to create multi-layered works of art.
Inzana spent months transforming a fairly ordinary picture of a Porsche 911 in this large 18-layer aluminium wall art using an algorithm developed to translate a 2-d photo in a photo-sculpture 3-d.
When he posted the picture on Reddit last week suddenly found an influx of support and orders. Now a sideline project is going to come to a small business, says this Inzana had become overwhelmed by the interest.
He took a break from creating a Web site for the company to respond to some of our questions about how he created this clever project.
Twitter: how long you work for this image?
Inzana: I have developed the idea for some time now. I am interested in animation that uses the concept of overlap to a large extent, so I guess to go through this.
IA: how long yellow Porsche got?
Inzana: yellow porsche piece took several months to complete. We should know what material was better and how to get the cut pieces. I have also an interesting algorithm will help to interpret art 2-d into 3-d space. bolts and spacers also was difficult to understand and it took me a few assemblies to achieve the outcome that I designed.
(K): this is the first try?
Inzana: Porsche is my first piece of metal. I created another with heavy illustration Board when I was originally experimenting with the concept.
IA: How do you go from image to the final piece?
Inzana: can I use Illustrator and Photoshop for the preparation of the image — that is by far the most time-consuming step — I get levels understand and sort out how I want each layer to appear. Then the files go to a machine shop and metal is cut with a laser! Take the pieces and their face paint, paint, and then gather after some math to understand how many spacers.
IA: you're clearly a car fans, what do you drive?
Your disk a Inzana: Honda element 2003. Before two years driving me that I got a 03 Eurovan around the country for three months, with almost no money. Prior to this one 02 Mini Cooper. My father is a great guy and you're showing Porsche car since I was a small child.
IA: what is your background in art?
Inzana: I studied film, art, and computer science at UC Santa Barbara but I reached my 3rd year to leave because I have projects outside of the school that I was more obsessed with. Fortunately I was able to find work doing motion graphics work in Los Angeles-where I live now. My only real design background tracks many movies, design, since I was a kid, reading graphic novels and Learning Photoshop and video software, when he was 13.
